About The Teachers:
Bernadette Gates
Bernadette Gates discovered that yoga can offer much more than a physical practice while living in Bhutan. Having committed to vegetarianism at the age of 11, she connected deeply with the teachings of compassion and non-violence central to the yoga philosophy. Upon returning home to San Francisco, Bernadette was inspired to enroll in a 200-hour teacher training at Yoga Tree, followed by a 300-hour Jivamukti Yoga Teacher Training at Govardhan Eco Village in India alongside her brother, Stanley Currier. Bernadette has completed several additional teacher trainings, including Yoga for Breast Cancer Survivors with Tari Prinster, and Prison Yoga with James Fox. She led trauma-informed yoga classes inside San Francisco County Jails for several years, and has subbed public classes throughout Bay Area studios.
Bernadette was a practicing Doctor of Physical Therapy for many years, and continues to bring her expertise in movement analysis, thoughtfully tailored sequencing, and injury prevention to guide her teaching.
Stanley Currier
Stanley Currier first started practicing yoga while working in Kazakhstan, and over the years has studied with teachers in the United States, Japan, Kazakhstan, and India. He has trained in multiple styles of yoga, and most recently completed the yoga4cancer 75-hour training program, the 300-hour advanced studies yoga teacher training program at the Bhagavata Sevaya School of Yoga, and the 300-hour Jivamukti Yoga teacher training program with his sister, Bernadette.
Stanley's teaching is rooted in kindness, compassion, and a commitment to student safety. Before returning to the Bay Area in 2021, he taught in Washington, DC and Almaty, Kazakhstan, offering classes that emphasized accessibility, curiosity, and mindful exploration. He currently teaches weekly yoga classes and therapeutic yoga workshops online, supporting students across the globe. In addition to yoga, Stanley enjoys long walks along the San Francisco Bay Trail, and exploring local vegan scenes, languages, and cultures during his travels.
